Speaker: Cate Galyon, STAT Advocate
I have been an active advocate in the Tucson disability community for the past 17 years, growing my knowledge and experience to empower individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers, with the tools to advocate for themselves. I have provided support to families and individuals with disabilities. I received my BA in Special Education Cross Categorical from the University of Arizona in 2015 and my Master’s in Jurisprudence Children’s Law and Policy, with a focus on education, from Loyola School of Law in 2021. All of these steps were taken so that I could fulfill my mission to expand people’s perspectives about individuals with disabilities by inspiring community inclusion, by removing barriers that prevent access for individuals to fully participate in community life, and by valuing diversity, education, disabilities, and life experiences. I believe that everyone has fundamental, moral, and constitutional rights regardless of their mental or physical disability. All human beings are inherently valuable. All people are entitled to experiences free of barriers and access to conditions that optimize development within their community.
