History of Care 4 the Caregivers

Care 4 the Caregivers has had many different names over the years, but our mission has remained to same- to care for caregivers raising a child with a disability.

In 2018, Michele Thorne, our Founder and Executive Director, saw a need for an organization that supports those raising a child with a disability and launched D.A.M.E.S. (Differently Abled Mother’s Empowerment Society) LCC to fill that gap. This site focused on providing educational webinars, meditations, and fitness programs to its members.

To give parents access to resources and support for free D.A.M.E.S. Charities, Inc was launched in 2020 as a 501c3. Parents were now getting the support they needed at zero cost, but other caregivers (fathers, grandparents, foster care parents) felt left out. Realizing they needed help too, another change was needed.

To create a more inclusive organization that considers all caregivers, one last name change was made, and Care 4 the Caregivers was launched on September 5th, 2021.
