Phoenix Symphony: Music of the Americas

November 4, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Music of the Americas celebrates the rich and varied orchestral traditions of North and South America. The centerpiece of the program is Aaron Copland’s timeless Suite from Appalachian Spring, a work of such enduring and widespread popularity that it is one of the most recognized American classics. Juan Pablo Contreras’ Mariachitlán, an homage to the Mexican state of Jalisco, the home of Mariachi music the composer’s birthplace, receives its TPS premiere. The brilliant, Grammy Award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich performs Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, with its romantic, meditative melodies and rhythmic intensity. The great Argentinian composer Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia is the dramatic story of a city boy in love with a rancher’s daughter.
